2015 Perth Mint Funnel Web Spider 1 oz Silver Coin (With Capsule)
Showcasing one of Australia’s favourite animals, this 2015 1 oz Australian Silver Funnel-Web Spider Coin is available in brand new, brilliant uncirculated condition. This coin is the follow up to last year’s Salt Water Crocodile coin from the Perth Mint in an outback setting.
The funnel-web spider is part of a subfamily consisting of 40 species all native to Australia. The larger spiders are dark in color, ranging from a mix of black and blue to plum and brown. Their fangs are longer than a brown snake’s and are effective at delivering the spider’s deadly toxin. Indeed, they are capable of piercing some shoes and fingernails.
On the reverse side is the depiction of a funnel-spider. The creature’s depiction is simple, with details limited to the hair on its body and the joints in its eight legs. The inscription "Australian Funnel-Web Spider" appears, with the 2015 year date and precious metal weight and fineness indicated below. The Perth Mint's "P" mint mark is also incorporated. They are struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver.
On the obverse is the standard right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, that is featured on all Australian coins. Engravings include "Elizabeth II", "Australia", and the face value of the coin.
