1 oz Silver Round US Air Force Because of the Brave
The United States Air Force has built a distinguished legacy through its commitment to national security, groundbreaking innovation, and leadership in air and space power. As a critical branch of the U.S. Department of Defense, it continues to protect American interests both domestically and around the world.
The roots of the USAF date back to the early 1900s, when military aviation was just emerging. In 1907, the U.S. Army Signal Corps formed the Aeronautical Division, which later evolved into the U.S. Army Air Service in 1918.
The Air Force became an independent military branch on September 18, 1947, following the enactment of the National Security Act. This legislation officially separated it from the U.S. Army, establishing it as its own service branch.
The obverse of the 1 oz Air Force Silver Round showcases the official emblem of the United States Air Force, symbolizing its mission to provide airlift operations, supply and resupply capabilities, and maintain air superiority in support of the nation’s defense.
On the reverse, the round features the iconic Stars and Stripes, depicted as it waves in the wind, with finely detailed stars and stripes. The design is completed by the inscription: “LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.”
