2021 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin
The United States Mint has already announced plans to change the reverse image of the American bald eagle on the respective silver and gold versions of the popular bullion coins. Those changes were slated to debut with the release of the 2021 American Eagle, but as the designs have not been narrowed down to one and the die not yet produced, the start of coining for 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins will continue to showcase the original designs.
On the obverse side of 2021 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find an image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief depicts Liberty carrying a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. The figure of Liberty is framed from behind by rays of sunshine as a ring of 50 stars encircles the entire design element. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read Liberty and 2021.
The reverse face of the 2021 American Eagle Gold Coin features a family of American bald eagles. In this design from Miley Busiek, a male eagle flies over a nest that contains a female eagle and a young hatchling. This design has been exclusive to this coin series since 1986 when it was released. Inscriptions include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 1/4 oz Fine Gold 10 Dollars.
By mid-2021, the US Mint will cease producing 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins with the existing design and rollout 2021-dated coins with the new reverse design. This will mark the first-ever change to the designs in the series and the first-ever release year in the collection with multiple designs in use.
