The New Lunar Year or Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a Chinese calendar year and each cycle is named after an animal.
Do you know how this came about?
One of the ancient folk story tells that the Jade Emperor decreed that the years on the calendar would be named after each animal, in the order they reached him. To get there, the animals would have to cross a river. There were 13 animals came to the race.
The Cat and Mouse were very bad at swimming, but they were both quite intelligent. They decided that the best and fastest way to cross the river was to hop on the back of the Ox. The Ox, being kind hearted and naive, agreed to carry them both across. As the Ox was about to reach the other side of the river, the Mouse pushed the Cat into the water, and then jumped off the Ox and rushed to the Jade Emperor. Hence, the Mouse was named as the first animal of the zodiac calendar. The Ox had to settle in second place.
People born during the Year of the Mouse (also called Year of the Rat) generally tend to express practicality and charm. They display signs of great social aptitude, intelligence, and a great work ethic, making them wonderful friends and solid business partners.
