Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse field of 2021 Gilded Australian Lunar Ox 1 oz Silver Coins. The design included on this face is the sixth-generation portrait of the Queen on Australian coins. The portrait shows Elizabeth II in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. Inscriptions around the design field read Elizabeth II, Australia, 1 oz 9999 Ag, and 1 Dollar.

Two oxen are featured in the reverse design of the 2021 Gilded Australian Lunar Ox Silver Coins. This image from Ing Ing Jong depicts an adult ox in the foreground beneath the branch of a cherry blossom tree with its young calf at its side. The background of the design field showcases plowed fields leading to a small farming village in the distance. The only English inscription on this side is Ox 2021, with the Chinese symbol for the ox included.

The Chinese Lunar Calendar follows a 12-year cycle that starts with the Year of the Mouse and ends with the Year of the Pig. Each animal is associated with a specific year based on that animal arrival to a meeting with the Jade Emperor. Chinese cultural mythology suggests that the ox arrived second, just behind the mouse.
