2026 Canada Maple Leaf 1/4 oz 9999 Gold Coin

First introduced in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf quickly became one of the most enduring gold bullion coins in the world, second only to the South African Krugerrand in continuous production. Originally issued in a single weight, the series has since expanded to offer six different weight options each year, with the 1 oz coin remaining a consistent favorite among investors and collectors.

The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin presents the first Canadian portrait of King Charles III. Created by artist Steven Rosati, the left-facing effigy depicts the King without a crown and represents only the third time a Canadian artist has designed a monarch’s likeness for national coinage.

The reverse continues to feature Walter Ott’s renowned sugar maple leaf design, which debuted in 1979. This iconic motif has become a defining symbol of the Maple Leaf series, appearing across Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium editions.

Sugar maple leaves undergo a remarkable seasonal transformation. Starting as bright green foliage in spring and early summer, their rich chlorophyll content masks other pigments, giving the leaves their vibrant hue. They remain green throughout the peak growing season, efficiently photosynthesizing and sustaining the tree’s energy production.

The 2026 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They can be purchased individually in sealed plastic flips or in sheets of 20 coins. While the Maple Leaf series began in 1979, the 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf was introduced in 1986 as one of the series’ fractional-ounce coins.
