The American flag billows in the background, and she carries a bounty of olive and oak branches in her left arm. The word “LIBERTY” is inscribed along the rim of the coin, along with the year of issue and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

The coin’s reverse displays John Mercanti’s updated United States national coat of arms. Here, a bald eagle stretched its wings, holding a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. It grasps a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak, and its chest is decorated with a shield showing the US flag. 13 stars shine above the eagle’s head, representing the 13 colonies. The weight, purity, denomination, and country’s name are inscribed around the rim.
