Although often referred to as a “koala bear”, koalas are not bears at all, they are marsupials. Koalas climb trees and have a pouch to carry their offspring, similar to kangaroos. An herbivore distinctly native to Australia, a koala eats plenty of eucalyptus leaves. Because this plant is normally toxic, koala’s bodies consume a large amount of energy to process it.
