2025 Great Britain Royal Tudor Beasts (Greyhound) 2 oz Silver Coin
Reigning from 1485 to 1603, the Tudor dynasty—Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I—led England from the late medieval period into the Renaissance. Their rule brought profound transformations in government, culture, and the arts. As a continuation of The Royal Mint’s Queen’s Beasts collection, the Tudor Beasts Series honors the heraldic symbols associated with this influential royal house.
The obverse of the 2025 2 oz Silver Tudor Beasts The Greyhound of Richmond Coin displays a left-facing portrait of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings. Commissioned by The Royal Mint in late 2022, this first-generation effigy presents His Majesty without a crown.
On the reverse, the heraldic Greyhound of Richmond appears positioned behind a shield bearing the Three Lions of England. This imagery was intentionally used by the Tudors to emphasize legitimacy and continuity, appearing frequently in royal architecture and artwork to affirm loyalty to England’s ancient monarchy while highlighting the dynasty’s distinct identity.
The Greyhound of Richmond was a key royal badge of the Tudor dynasty, adopted by Henry VII as a symbol uniting his Lancastrian heritage with the Beaufort lineage. Tudor rulers prominently displayed this noble hound on banners, buildings, and personal items to reinforce their rightful claim to the throne.
