The American Gold Buffalo, an official gold bullion coin of the United States of America, was first released into circulation by the U.S. Mint in 2006 after the successful passage of the Presidential $1 Coin Act in 2005. It was the first time that the U.S. Mint, established under Congress’ Coinage Act of 1972, had ever struck a coin in 24-karat gold.

The US Mint introduced the American Gold Buffalo on June 22, 2006. Guaranteed by the United States Government, this beautiful coin is the first gold bullion coin with 99.99% pure gold content. The Buffalo coins are produced at the United States Mint West Point facility but doesn't carry a mintmark. This fantastic coin series has become a huge success among collectors and investors all over the world, especially due to the fast increase of the intrinsic value, which almost doubles its price today. Initially, this gorgeous coin was released to compete with foreign gold coins, such as the worldwide renowned South African Krugerrands.
